Proximicin B is a novel aminofuran antibiotic and DNA-binding agent isolated from marine actinomycetes of the genus *Verrucosispora*. It belongs to a family of compounds (proximicins A, B, and C) that are structurally related to the DNA-binding agents netropsin and distamycin. The molecular framework of proximicin B is characterized by the presence of an unusual α-amino acid, 4-aminofuran-2-carboxylic acid. In preclinical studies, proximicin B has demonstrated potent antitumor activity, particularly against Hodgkin's lymphoma (L1236) and T-cell leukemia (Jurkat 16) cell lines, where it induces dose-dependent apoptosis. Its mechanism of action involves binding to DNA and activating cell-cycle regulatory proteins that facilitate the transition of cells from the G1 to the S phase.
