Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prozap is a trade name used for several distinct chemical and pharmaceutical products, making it a non-specific identifier globally. In the pharmaceutical sector, it most commonly refers to two different generic medications: omeprazole and fluoxetine. In Mexico and other Latin American markets, Prozap is a brand of omeprazole manufactured by Laboratorios Senosiain. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the gastric proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and hypersecretory conditions like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In the Philippines, Prozap is a brand of fluoxetine marketed by Westmont Pharmaceuticals (a division of Unilab). Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases extracellular levels of serotonin by limiting its reabsorption into the presynaptic cell, used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and panic disorder. Additionally, the Prozap name is used by Neogen Corporation for a variety of agricultural and veterinary pest control products, including rodenticides containing zinc phosphide and insecticides containing dichlorvos or pyrethrins.
