Overview

ProZema is an oral live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific mixture of three probiotic bacterial strains: *Bifidobacterium lactis* CECT 8145, *Bifidobacterium longum* CECT 7347, and *Lactobacillus casei* CECT 9104. Developed by Biopolis (a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland), this microbial therapy is designed to modulate the gut-skin axis for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema). The individual strains were selected for their specific functional properties: *B. lactis* CECT 8145 for its antioxidant activity, *B. longum* CECT 7347 for its anti-inflammatory effects, and *L. casei* CECT 9104 for complementary gut health benefits. Clinical evidence from randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials in children and adolescents (ages 4-17) demonstrates that the mixture significantly reduces disease severity as measured by the SCORAD index and decreases the frequency and amount of topical corticosteroid use required to manage flares.
