PRP Protocol B is a specific autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) preparation protocol developed by the Instituto Nacional de Traumatologia e Ortopedia (INTO) for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. As a biological therapy, PRP is produced by concentrating platelets from a patient's own peripheral blood. When injected intra-articularly, these platelets release a high concentration of bioactive proteins, including growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors facilitate tissue repair, modulate inflammatory cytokines, and improve the rheological environment of the joint. This specific protocol was evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial to compare its clinical efficacy and composition against another PRP preparation (Protocol A) and hyaluronic acid viscosupplementation.
