PRS-010 is a PEGylated Anticalin protein designed to bind and neutralize Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A). Developed by Pieris Pharmaceuticals, it was primarily investigated for the treatment of exudative (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Anticalins are a proprietary class of low-molecular-weight binding proteins derived from human lipocalins, engineered to provide high affinity and specificity to targets while offering better tissue penetration and stability compared to traditional antibodies. PRS-010 was designed for intravitreal administration to inhibit the pathological angiogenesis and vascular permeability associated with VEGF-A overexpression in the eye. Although it successfully completed a Phase 1 clinical trial demonstrating safety and tolerability, the program was not advanced into later-stage clinical development by Pieris.
