Overview

pRTP801-hVEGF is a hypoxia-inducible plasmid DNA gene therapy designed to express human vascular endothelial growth factor (hVEGF, specifically the VEGF-165 isoform) under the control of the hypoxia-responsive RTP801 promoter. It is developed for therapeutic angiogenesis to treat ischemic diseases, such as myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease, as well as to improve islet engraftment and survival in islet transplantation by promoting revascularization under hypoxic conditions. The plasmid is typically delivered using non-viral carriers such as water-soluble lipopolymer (WSLP) or Effectene.
