Overview

Prunus domestica extract is derived from the bark of the Prunus domestica tree. Its active constituents include phytosterols (such as beta-sitosterol), pentacyclic triterpenoids (like ursolic and oleaic acids), and ferulic esters of long-chain fatty alcohols. The phytosterols, particularly beta-sitosterol, are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, primarily by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. This action helps to reduce elevated prostaglandin levels, making it potentially useful in conditions such as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It is administered as a dietary supplement.
