Overview

PRX-119 is a plant cell-expressed, PEGylated recombinant human Deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I) enzyme developed by Protalix BioTherapeutics using their ProCellEx platform. It is designed for the treatment of diseases related to Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs), which are web-like DNA structures released by neutrophils that can contribute to various autoimmune, inflammatory, fibrotic conditions, thrombosis, and cancer. The PEGylation increases the half-life of the enzyme in circulation. By degrading circulating NETs and cell-free DNA (cfDNA), PRX-119 aims to reduce NET-mediated pathology. Preclinical studies have shown that administration of PRX-119 decreases cfDNA levels and improves survival in animal models of sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome[1][3][9].
