Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PS18 is a prosaposin-derived 18-mer peptide analog that exhibits neurotrophic and anti-apoptotic properties. It has been shown to reduce neuronal damage and apoptosis, particularly by antagonizing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. In models of Parkinson's disease, PS18 significantly reduced dopaminergic neuronal loss and ER stress markers such as PERK, ATF6, CHOP, and BiP, suggesting a neuroprotective role. Its mechanism of action involves mitigating ER stress, which is implicated in neurodegenerative processes.
