Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PSD508 is an intravaginally delivered formulation of mefenamic acid, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), developed by Plethora Solutions for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea. By delivering the active ingredient locally, PSD508 aims to provide rapid relief of menstrual pain while potentially reducing the systemic side effects associated with oral NSAID administration. Mefenamic acid works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins which are key mediators of uterine contractions and pain during menstruation. The drug reached Phase 2 clinical development, where it was evaluated in a crossover study comparing its efficacy and safety against oral mefenamic acid and placebo.
