Pseudarthria viscida extract is derived from the plant *Pseudarthria viscida* (L.) Wight & Arn., a perennial shrub widely used in traditional Indian and Ayurvedic medicine. The extracts are typically obtained from the roots or leaves and are rich in phytochemicals such as flavonoids, phenolic compounds (including gallic acid, caffeic acid, rutin, quercetin), alkaloids, proteins, tannins, and leucopelargonidin. The plant is a key ingredient in several classical Ayurvedic formulations like Dasamoolarishta and Mahanarayana taila. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated that Pseudarthria viscida extracts possess multiple bioactivities including antidiabetic[3][4][5], antioxidant[2][4][6], anti-inflammatory[2][5], antibacterial[2], antifungal[4], cytotoxic/antitumor[2][4], antipyretic[2][5], hepatoprotective[2], analgesic/wound healing effects[2]. Mechanistically these effects are attributed to inhibition of enzymes such as cyclooxygenase/lipoxygenase (reducing prostaglandin/leukotriene synthesis), free radical scavenging activity (antioxidant effect), modulation of inflammatory mediators like histamine and serotonin/prostaglandins/serotonin synthesis inhibition for anti-inflammatory action. Antidiabetic activity has been shown in animal models by reducing blood glucose levels and improving lipid profiles. The root is considered the most pharmacologically active part but both stem and leaf extracts also show significant biological activities. The plant is not a pharmaceutical drug but rather an herbal/dietary supplement with extensive use in ethnomedicine for conditions such as diabetes mellitus, fever/rheumatism/asthma/bronchitis/tuberculosis/blood disorders/tumors/hemorrhoids/hyperthermia/dyspepsia/vomiting/diarrhea/nervous dysfunction/cardiac diseases.
