Overview

Kofed is a fixed-dose combination drug product containing the first-generation antihistamine triprolidine and the nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine. Originally developed by Burroughs Wellcome (now GSK) under the brand name Actifed, Kofed is manufactured as a generic product by Laboratory & Allied in Kenya. It is indicated for the temporary, symptomatic relief of upper respiratory tract symptoms associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis. Triprolidine acts as a competitive antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, reducing allergy-mediated symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and watery eyes. Pseudoephedrine acts as a sympathomimetic agonist on alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa to relieve nasal and sinus congestion.
