Pseudotropine is a naturally occurring tropane alkaloid and an isomer of tropine. It is found in certain plants such as Atropa belladonna and Erythroxylum coca. Pseudotropine is produced via the NADPH-dependent reduction of the 3-carbonyl group of tropinone to a beta-hydroxyl group by the enzyme tropinone reductase-II[4][3]. It serves as a biosynthetic intermediate in the formation of other medicinally important alkaloids like hyoscyamine (atropine) and cocaine[4][3]. Pseudotropine itself has been used primarily as a research chemical and synthetic building block for drug discovery targeting various therapeutically interesting targets including novel nicotinic receptor agonists[1][9]. There are no approved medical indications or clinical uses for pseudotropine; it remains an experimental compound.
