Psiguavin is a natural compound belonging to the family of hydrolyzable tannins, extracted from the guava plant (Psidium guajava). It is being investigated as a potential treatment for obesity and overweight by acting as an inhibitor of pancreatic lipase, the primary enzyme responsible for dietary lipid digestion. Preliminary studies suggest a strong interaction between psiguavin and the active site of pancreatic lipase, leading to a reduction in dietary calorie intake, similar to the approved obesity drug orlistat. While traditionally used for liver fat accumulation, its efficacy for obesity is currently being evaluated in clinical trials.
