Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terran Biosciences' psilocin prodrug program represents a portfolio of novel, orally active small-molecule prodrugs of psilocin currently in preclinical development. These compounds are designed to be metabolized into psilocin in the body, acting as agonists at the 5-HT2A receptor to produce psychedelic activity. Unlike psilocybin, the classic psilocin prodrug, Terran's compounds are engineered with modified pharmacokinetic properties to offer both shorter-acting and faster-acting profiles, aiming to reduce the duration of clinical therapy sessions and improve patient access. The program is covered under PCT patent application WO2023023347 ('Prodrugs and Derivatives of Psilocin and Uses Thereof') and is being developed for neuropsychiatric and psychiatric illnesses, including depression.
