Overview

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic tryptamine alkaloid and phosphorylated prodrug of psilocin. Following dephosphorylation to psilocin, it produces psychedelic effects primarily through partial agonism of the serotonin 2A receptor. The University of Southern California is evaluating a single supervised psilocybin dose, with or without an eight-week mindfulness-training program, in a Phase 2 pilot study in healthy adults to assess feasibility and effects on stress and mental-health measures.
