PSK + UFT + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of certain cancers, including unresectable pancreatic cancer. The regimen consists of three agents: - **PSK (Polysaccharide Krestin)**, an immunomodulatory protein-bound polysaccharide derived from the mushroom Coriolus versicolor, which is believed to enhance immune function and may reduce tumor progression by stimulating host immune responses. - **UFT**, an oral fluoropyrimidine derivative composed of tegafur and uracil in a fixed molar ratio; it acts as a prodrug for 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), inhibiting thymidylate synthase and thereby interfering with DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells. - **Cisplatin**, a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in cancer cells. This combination has been reported to induce tumor regression and improve outcomes in some patients with advanced or unresectable cancers[1][3]. The rationale for combining these agents is to leverage both direct cytotoxic effects (cisplatin, UFT) and immunomodulation (PSK) for enhanced antitumor activity.
