PSMA-12-IRDye800CW is a targeted near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent imaging agent designed for the intraoperative visualization of prostate cancer. It consists of a small-molecule ligand, PSMA-12, which specifically binds to the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), conjugated to the fluorophore IRDye800CW. While IRDye800CW is traditionally used for NIR-I imaging, this probe leverages its extended emission tail in the NIR-II window (beyond 1000 nm) to provide superior image contrast, deeper tissue penetration, and reduced autofluorescence. The agent is primarily intended for real-time surgical navigation and histopathological tumor margin mapping, helping surgeons distinguish between malignant and healthy tissue during radical prostatectomy or other oncological procedures.
