Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A PSMA-radioguided surgery tracer is a radiolabeled targeting agent designed to bind to prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) on prostate cancer cells, enabling real-time intraoperative localization of metastatic lesions (such as lymph nodes) during salvage or primary surgery. These tracers are typically labeled with gamma-emitting or beta-emitting radioisotopes (such as technetium-99m, indium-111, or gallium-68) and are detected using specialized handheld or robotic 'drop-in' gamma or beta probes. This approach, known as PSMA-radioguided surgery (PSMA-RGS), helps surgeons identify and resect small or atypically located metastatic lesions that might otherwise be missed, thereby improving surgical precision and oncological outcomes in patients with recurrent or high-risk prostate cancer.
