PSN842 is an orally administered small‑molecule agonist of the G protein‑coupled receptor 119 (GPR119) that was developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. As a GPR119 agonist, PSN842 is designed to enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion and incretin (e.g., GLP‑1) release, thereby improving glycemic control with a potentially lower risk of hypoglycemia and additional effects on food intake and body weight. The compound originated from Prosidion, a diabetes research subsidiary whose assets, including PSN842, were optioned by AstraZeneca from Astellas for potential further development as part of a new class of antidiabetic therapies.[1][4][8][11][13][14][16]
