PSN9301 is an oral small molecule inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-4), developed as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes. It was designed to inhibit DPP-4, an enzyme responsible for the inactivation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a gut hormone that increases insulin secretion in response to meals. By inhibiting DPP-4, PSN9301 increases GLP-1 activity and enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion while reducing blood glucose levels. The drug has a rapid onset and short duration of action, making it suitable for meal-related dosing. Clinical trials indicated that it was generally well tolerated with no significant risk of hypoglycemia[3][5]. Originally developed by Probiodrug AG and later acquired by Prosidion (a subsidiary of OSI Pharmaceuticals), development reached Phase II before being discontinued[4].
