Overview

Psomaglobin N is a hyperimmune intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) preparation specifically enriched for antibodies against the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigens of *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. It is derived from the plasma of donors who naturally possess high titers of these specific antibodies. Formulated similarly to the standard IVIG preparation Polyglobin N, Psomaglobin N provides passive immunity to prevent or treat severe infections caused by *Pseudomonas*, particularly in high-risk settings such as burn wound sepsis and polymicrobial infections. Its mechanism involves the binding of IgG to bacterial surface antigens, which promotes opsonization, complement activation, and subsequent phagocytosis by host immune cells. Historically developed by Troponwerke (a subsidiary of Bayer), it has been investigated for its protective capacity in various murine models of sepsis, pneumonia, and peritonitis.
