Overview
Combination therapy of psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA) with tacalcitol is used primarily for treating chronic plaque-type psoriasis. Psoralen is a photosensitizing agent that, when combined with UVA light exposure, helps slow down the overgrowth of skin cells that form psoriasis plaques. Tacalcitol is a vitamin D analog that regulates epidermal proliferation and differentiation. The combination works synergistically, with tacalcitol enhancing the therapeutic effect of PUVA therapy, allowing for lower cumulative UVA doses and potentially reducing long-term hazards associated with PUVA treatment.
