Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Psyllium husk + cellulose is a combination of soluble and insoluble dietary fibers utilized primarily as a bulk-forming laxative and nutritional supplement. Psyllium husk, a mucilaginous fiber derived from the seeds of *Plantago ovata*, functions by absorbing water in the intestinal lumen to form a viscous, lubricating gel that increases stool volume and moisture. Cellulose, an insoluble polysaccharide found in plant cell walls, provides non-fermentable structural bulk that mechanically stimulates the intestinal wall to increase peristalsis and reduce colonic transit time. This combination is indicated for the management of chronic constipation, the symptomatic relief of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and as an adjunct in weight management and lipid-lowering regimens due to its effects on satiety and bile acid sequestration.
