Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PT-1 EPO is an investigational drug developed by Imagine Pharma, designed as an oral formulation of Epogen (epoetin alfa), a well-established erythropoiesis-stimulating agent. It aims to treat anemia in patients with conditions such as renal failure and those undergoing chemotherapy, offering a needleless alternative to injectable biologics. The drug utilizes Imagine Pharma's proprietary Protein Transporter (PT) System, which facilitates the oral delivery of biologics by fusing the therapeutic protein with a transporter that enables absorption through the intestinal wall. Once absorbed, the transporter is cleaved, releasing the active biologic into the bloodstream. This innovative approach allows PT-1 EPO to mimic the action of endogenous erythropoietin by binding to the erythropoietin receptor and stimulating red blood cell production.
