Overview

PT001 MDI is an investigational long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) developed by Pearl Therapeutics (now a subsidiary of AstraZeneca) for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains glycopyrrolate (glycopyrronium bromide) formulated using Pearl's proprietary porous particle cosuspension technology and delivered via a hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) metered-dose inhaler. As a LAMA, glycopyrrolate works by competitively blocking muscarinic receptors, particularly the M3 subtype, in the airway smooth muscle, which results in bronchodilation and improved lung function. PT001 has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials as a standalone therapy and also serves as the LAMA component in Pearl's fixed-dose combination products, such as PT003 (glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate).
