Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PTC-2118 is a next-generation mitochondrial-targeted geropeptide (part of the MitoXcel™ platform) being developed by Eos Senolytix (licensed from Senotherapeutix) for the treatment of mitochondrial rare diseases. Designed for enhanced potency and expanded indications compared to the lead candidate PTC-2105, PTC-2118 targets the inner mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm). It binds directly to cardiolipin and key proteins in the electron transport chain (ETC), particularly in Complexes III and IV. PTC-2118 operates via two primary mechanisms: Mechanism 1, which enhances mitochondrial efficiency and ATP production, and Mechanism 2, which selectively eliminates senescent cells by inducing apoptosis. The drug is currently in preclinical development.
