PTC607 is an investigational, orally administered small molecule splicing modulator being developed by PTC Therapeutics for the treatment of Huntington's disease. Utilizing PTC's proprietary splicing platform, PTC607 is designed to reduce the production of the huntingtin (HTT) protein. It works by promoting the inclusion of a 'pseudo-exon' into the HTT pre-mRNA, which introduces a premature stop codon, leading to the degradation of the mRNA transcript via nonsense-mediated decay and a subsequent reduction in HTT protein levels. This approach targets the root cause of Huntington's disease by lowering the levels of the toxic protein responsible for neuronal damage. PTC607 has been studied in Phase 1 clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
