The Pterolobium stellatum butanol fraction is a botanical research extract derived from the leaves of *Pterolobium stellatum*, a perennial flowering plant in the Fabaceae family native to Ethiopia and other parts of Africa. This fraction is obtained through the systematic fractionation of an 80% methanol crude extract of the plant's leaves using n-butanol. While *Pterolobium stellatum* is traditionally used in Ethiopian folk medicine to treat epilepsy and seizures, preclinical research published in 2022 demonstrated that the butanol fraction specifically lacks significant anti-seizure activity in both in vitro (0 Mg2+ model) and in vivo (maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazol-induced seizure) models. This is in contrast to the chloroform and aqueous fractions of the same plant, which showed efficacy. The fraction has also been investigated for potential antimycobacterial properties in academic settings. It is not currently associated with any commercial pharmaceutical development or specific molecular targets.
