PTI-202

PTI-202 is an abuse-resistant, small molecule opioid formulation developed by Pain Therapeutics (now Cassava Sciences) for the treatment of chronic pain. It was designed as an oral version of the opioid analgesic oxymorphone, utilizing proprietary abuse-deterrent technology intended to prevent common methods of misuse, such as crushing, chewing, or dissolving the drug for injection or inhalation. A Phase I clinical trial in healthy volunteers demonstrated that PTI-202 was safe and well-tolerated, with a pharmacokinetic profile suitable for chronic pain management. Despite these early results, development was discontinued as the developer pivoted its strategic focus toward Alzheimer's disease research.
