PTK6 shRNA (short hairpin RNA targeting Protein Tyrosine Kinase 6) is a research-use-only genetic tool designed to knock down the expression of PTK6 (also known as Breast Tumor Kinase, or BRK). PTK6 is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase that is overexpressed in various cancers, including breast, prostate, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers, where it acts as an oncogenic driver promoting cell survival, proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). By targeting PTK6 mRNA for degradation via the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, PTK6 shRNA downregulates PTK6 protein levels. This knockdown has been shown in preclinical research to induce apoptosis (often mediated by the upregulation of the pro-apoptotic protein Bim) and inhibit the growth and metastasis of cancer cells, including those resistant to standard therapies. It is widely used in laboratory settings to study the kinase-dependent and kinase-independent functions of PTK6.
