PtL₂ is a novel steroid-thiosemicarbazone platinum(II) complex that has demonstrated antiproliferative activity in breast cancer cells. It exhibits cytotoxic activity comparable to cisplatin in both estrogen receptor-positive and triple-negative breast cancer cell lines, while showing reduced toxicity in healthy cells. Its mechanism of action involves inducing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, which differentiates it from cisplatin's predominant S-phase block. Additionally, PtL₂ dysregulates antioxidant enzyme expression, potentially disrupting cellular redox homeostasis. These findings suggest PtL₂ as a promising alternative to conventional platinum-based therapies for breast cancer.
