Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PTL201 is an oral formulation of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) developed by PhytoTech Therapeutics, a subsidiary of Harvest One Cannabis. The drug employs a proprietary Pro-Nano Liposphere (PNL) delivery technology, which is a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) designed to overcome the poor oral bioavailability and high first-pass metabolism typically associated with cannabinoids. By forming a nano-emulsion in the gastrointestinal tract, the PNL system facilitates lymphatic absorption, potentially leading to more predictable and higher plasma concentrations compared to conventional oral or buccal delivery methods. PTL201 was primarily investigated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of spasticity and related symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), where it was compared to the approved buccal spray Sativex.
