Overview

PTP-01 is a peptide conjugate radionuclide developed as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for use with SPECT (Single-photon emission computed tomography) imaging. It was initially developed by the University of Virginia Foundation to enhance the detection of pancreatic cancer, specifically pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, by targeting plectin—a biomarker highly specific to pancreatic cancer cells. The drug was designed to improve sensitivity in detecting small or early-stage pancreatic cancers that are often missed by conventional CT or MRI scans. Its mechanism involves acting as an enhancer for SPECT imaging, allowing better visualization of neoplastic tissue during diagnostic procedures[1].
