Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**PTX-CDs** are investigational paclitaxel-derived carbon dots synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal process using paclitaxel as the precursor. The nanomaterial has approximately 1,000-fold greater water solubility than paclitaxel and was reported to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. In glioblastoma models, PTX-CDs preferentially accumulated in tumor-cell mitochondria, disrupted mitochondrial membrane potential, increased reactive oxygen species, induced G2/M cell-cycle arrest, and inhibited epithelial-mesenchymal transition and invasion. PTX-CDs inhibited intracranial tumor growth and extended survival in an orthotopic glioblastoma mouse model.
