Overview

PTX-COVID19-B is a messenger RNA (mRNA)-based vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19, the disease caused by infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The vaccine encodes the Spike protein D614G variant of SARS-CoV-2, but does not include the proline-proline (986–987) mutation found in some other mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. It is formulated using lipid nanoparticles to deliver the mRNA into cells, where it induces an immune response characterized by strong production of neutralizing antibodies and a T helper 1-biased antibody profile. Clinical trials have shown that PTX-COVID19-B is safe, well-tolerated, and elicits robust immunogenicity in healthy adults. The vaccine was created by Providence Therapeutics and has been manufactured under contract by Emergent BioSolutions. It has been included in international clinical trial programs such as the WHO Solidarity Trial Vaccines initiative[1][3][4][5][6].
