Overview

Pulmodexane is a medication containing dextromethorphan hydrobromide, which functions as an antitussive (cough suppressant). It's primarily marketed in France and is used to treat dry, irritating coughs. Dextromethorphan is a non-opioid antitussive that works by affecting the signals in the brain that trigger the cough reflex. Its major metabolite, dextrorphan, binds with high affinity to σ-receptors to produce antitussive activity without exhibiting classic opiate effects that occur from binding to μ- and δ-receptors. At therapeutic doses, it doesn't cause respiratory depression or dependence.
