Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PulmoLAR is a proprietary sustained-release injectable formulation of 2-methoxyestradiol (2ME) being developed by Pulmonary Research Partners (PRP) for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). 2-methoxyestradiol is an endogenous metabolite of estradiol that lacks significant estrogenic activity but possesses potent anti-proliferative, anti-angiogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In the context of PAH, 2ME is thought to inhibit the remodeling of pulmonary arteries by suppressing the proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts, likely through the inhibition of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) and the disruption of microtubule dynamics. PulmoLAR is administered as a subcutaneous injection and is designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels of 2ME, aiming to improve safety and efficacy over immediate-release or oral alternatives.
