Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pulmonary surfactant vesicles (PSV) are an investigational, inhaled vesicular lipid-protein formulation derived from natural bovine lung surfactants. Developed by researchers at the Beijing Institute of Radiation Medicine, the Chinese PLA General Hospital, and the China Institute for Radiation Protection, PSV is designed to prevent and treat acute lung injury (ALI) and radiation-induced lung injury (RILI). Administered via inhalation, PSV acts by restoring the alveolar-capillary barrier, reducing alveolar surface tension, and mitigating local inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptotic cell death in the lungs. In preclinical models, PSV has demonstrated superior protective efficacy compared to standard corticosteroids like budesonide in preventing toxic inhalation-related respiratory damage.
