Overview

Pulsed electrical field-activated platelet-rich plasma (PEF-PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy derived from a patient's own blood, specifically engineered to enhance the regenerative potential of traditional platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Unlike conventional PRP activation methods that rely on chemical triggers such as bovine thrombin or calcium chloride, PEF-PRP utilizes ultra-short, high-voltage pulsed electric fields (nanosecond pulses) to induce platelet degranulation. This physical activation method, primarily developed using Pulse Biosciences' Nano-Pulse Stimulation (NPS) technology, triggers the rapid release of a concentrated cocktail of endogenous growth factors from platelet alpha-granules, including PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF. The resulting preparation is primarily investigated for dermatological and aesthetic applications, such as the treatment of androgenetic alopecia and skin rejuvenation, where it promotes cellular proliferation, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling through the activation of cognate growth factor receptors.
