Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pumpkin seed oil is a natural edible oil extracted from the seeds of the pumpkin plant (Cucurbita pepo). It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants. Pumpkin seed oil has been studied for its potential health benefits including supporting urinary tract and prostate health (notably in benign prostatic hyperplasia), improving heart health by lowering LDL cholesterol and blood pressure while increasing HDL cholesterol, reducing menopausal symptoms due to phytoestrogen content, enhancing hair growth when taken orally or applied topically (possibly via DHT-blocking properties), and providing anti-inflammatory effects. Some studies also suggest possible roles in diabetes management and liver protection. The mechanism of action is thought to involve modulation of lipid metabolism through phytosterols and essential fatty acids as well as antioxidant activity[1][2][3][4][5][8].
