Punicic acid is a conjugated linolenic acid (CLnA) and an omega-5 polyunsaturated fatty acid primarily derived from pomegranate seed oil (*Punica granatum*). It is recognized for its diverse pharmacological properties, including potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. In oncology, punicic acid has demonstrated the ability to selectively impair ovarian cancer cell viability by inducing ferroptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction while sparing normal cells. It also acts as a potential sensitizer for cisplatin therapy. Beyond cancer, it is investigated for its role in managing metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes, improving lipid profiles, and providing cardiovascular protection. Mechanistically, it may interact with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) and modulate lipid metabolism pathways.
