Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PUR101 is a proprietary botanical formulation of psilocybin developed by PurMinds NeuroPharma, a clinical-stage neuroscience company. Unlike synthetic psilocybin, PUR101 is derived from mushroom extracts, intended to maintain a biologic/botanical profile. The drug was primarily being developed for the treatment of neurological disorders, with a specific focus on early-stage Parkinson's disease. Its mechanism of action involves acting as an agonist at serotonin receptors, particularly the 5-HT2A receptor, which is associated with promoting neuroplasticity and potential neuroprotective effects. While clinical trials were planned to involve approximately 40 patients in Australia to evaluate its efficacy, recent reports indicate that the development of PUR101 has been discontinued.
