Overview
PUR118 is a novel inhaled anti-inflammatory drug developed for the treatment of chronic respiratory diseases, primarily chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis. It is a calcium salt-based formulation engineered using Pulmatrix’s proprietary iSPERSE dry powder delivery technology, which enables efficient dispersal and delivery to the airways. The drug acts as an iCALM (inhaled Cationic Airway Lining Modulator) therapeutic, designed to harness the body’s natural defenses to prevent and treat airway inflammation associated with both viral and bacterial infections in chronic respiratory conditions. Clinical studies have shown that PUR118 is well tolerated in healthy volunteers and patients with COPD, demonstrating reductions in biomarkers of airway inflammation and supporting its potential for improving mucociliary clearance.
