Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Purecyp is an oral appetite-stimulating syrup developed and marketed by Organic Laboratories. It is a fixed-dose combination of cyproheptadine, a first-generation antihistamine and serotonin antagonist, and tricholine citrate, a lipotropic agent. Purecyp is primarily indicated to stimulate appetite, treat anorexia, and support healthy weight gain in children and adults suffering from undernutrition, malnutrition, or recovering from chronic illnesses. Cyproheptadine works by blocking serotonin receptors in the hypothalamus to stimulate hunger, while tricholine citrate aids in fat metabolism and liver function by promoting bile flow and mobilizing fats. The formulation may also contain sorbitol, which acts as a sweetening syrup base and a mild osmotic laxative to counteract constipation.
