Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Purethal Birch is an aluminum hydroxide-adsorbed, chemically modified birch pollen allergen extract (allergoid) for subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT). It is designed to treat allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and allergic asthma in patients with birch pollen allergy who are inadequately controlled by symptomatic treatments. The allergoid modification reduces the allergenic potential while maintaining immunogenicity, allowing higher doses to be administered with a lower risk of side effects. Purethal Birch induces specific IgG and IgG4 antibodies against the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1, which block basophil activation and suppress allergic inflammation. The product can be administered using conventional or accelerated (rush) up-dosing regimens followed by maintenance therapy[1][2][3][4][7].
