Overview

Purified omental lipid (P.O.L.) is a topical lipid extract derived from porcine omentum, a peritoneal tissue rich in neutral glycerides, phospholipids, glycolipids, and gangliosides. Developed by Cantabria Labs Difa Cooper, it is commercialized as a topical emollient and skin-protective medical device (such as P.O.L. cream) to restore skin barrier function, promote hydration, and support wound healing. It is used for the management of fragile skin, skin dryness (xerosis) in diabetic patients, and the prevention of pressure ulcers. Additionally, formulations combining purified omental lipids with anti-pruritic agents (such as polidocanol and palmitoylethanolamide) have been clinically evaluated and marketed for the treatment of chronic pruritus and prurigo nodularis.
