**Purified platelet-rich plasma** is an autologous biologic material consisting of plasma with a highly concentrated platelet content, prepared from a patient's own blood through centrifugation to remove red and white blood cells and concentrate platelets. It is enriched to contain a platelet concentration above baseline (generally 3–8 times physiological levels), often further purified to reduce leukocytes and other cellular components. The mechanism centers on platelets releasing growth factors (such as PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, IGF-I) and cytokines, which facilitate tissue repair, regeneration, and modulation of inflammation. Purified PRP is used primarily for orthopedic injuries (including tendon, ligament, muscle, and joint injuries), osteoarthritis, dermatologic indications (such as androgenic alopecia and wound healing), and in certain surgical and regenerative medicine applications. The precise formulation and concentration of platelets and plasma can vary based on preparation protocols.
