Purified Vero Cell Rabies Vaccine is an inactivated viral vaccine used for the prevention of rabies before and after exposure to the virus. The vaccine is produced by growing the Pitman-Moore strain of the rabies virus in Vero cells (a type of kidney epithelial cell line from African green monkeys), followed by purification and inactivation so that it cannot cause disease but can stimulate a protective immune response. Upon administration, it induces production of neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus, providing immunity to individuals at risk or exposed to potential infection. It is indicated for pre-exposure prophylaxis (for travelers or high-risk occupations) and post-exposure prophylaxis following animal bites or scratches[1][2][3][5]. Multiple brands exist globally; notable examples include Verorab (Sanofi Pasteur), Rabivax-S (developed on Vero ATCC CCL81 cells using Pitman Moore PM3218 strain), and SPEEDA PVRV (Liaoning Chengda Biology Co.)[2][6][8].
