PV-1950R is a recombinant protein-based vaccine developed by the Institute for Molecular Medicine (IMM) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Built on the MultiTEP platform technology, the vaccine simultaneously targets three B-cell epitopes of pathological alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein). Its mechanism of action involves the induction of high titers of antibodies that neutralize and inhibit the extracellular propagation and intracellular accumulation of toxic α-synuclein aggregates, which are central to neurodegeneration in synucleinopathies. Often formulated with the AdvaxCpG adjuvant (referred to as PV-1950R/A), the vaccine has demonstrated efficacy in reducing pathological aggregates and improving motor function in animal models. It is currently in preclinical development, with IND-enabling safety and toxicology studies planned.
